Yukiya Izumita 泉田 之也
Yukiya Izumita was born in 1966 in Rikuzentakata, Iwate Prefecture, in northern Japan. Known for its severe climate and a powerful natural environment facing the sea, this territory is a primary source of inspiration for the artist.
In 1992 he began learning Kokuji-yaki pottery from master Takeyoshi and then established his own kiln in 1995.
That same year he won the Menbachi Excellence Award at the Nissin Foods Contemporary Ceramic Art Exhibition, the first in a series of prestigious honors that included two grand prizes at the 2000 and 2002 Asahi Ceramic Art Exhibitions, and an Excellence Award at the 2009 Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition.
