Tomonari Hashimoto 橋本知成

Born in 1990 and based in Shigaraki, he studied at Kanazawa Art University and obtained a doctorate in Fine Arts. He produces often monumental works, to which he does not give titles, preferring to leave the interpretation to the viewer. After shaping the shapes by hand, he bakes them in biscuit then enameles them and fires them again at a low temperature. Then he builds a brick oven around each piece and raises the temperature, then adds millet or rice husk, which chars the surface. It is this step in the process that will bring shimmering colors and random patterns to the surface.

He was selected to exhibit at the 2019 Korean International Ceramic Biennale and was one of the youngest finalists for the “LOEWE Craft Prize 2019” exhibited at Sogetsu Kaikan in Tokyo.
